Mapilapattu and Oppanna (Thrissur, Calicut, Cochin, Trivandrum)

Oppanna is a popular social entertainment form practiced among the Mappilas or Muslim community of Kerala. It is considered famous especially in Thrissur, Calicut, Cochin and Trivandrum. It involves a congregation of musicians and dancers and usually presented on a wedding day. Considered as an integral part of the mappila marriage ceremony, it is celebrated as a part of the nuptial formalities. Dancers- Our dancers are professionally trained in all art forms and can also present the unique Oppana in its traditional and authentic style. As a culturally knowledgeable company, we supply dancers along with the necessary costumes and make up necessary for the ceremony. There are two types of Oppana the Oppana Chayal and the Oppana Murukkam. The dance is generally not vigorous.

Singers- Melodia Events have trained singers who can sing traditional as well as modern songs. Mappilappattu is a song specific to the themes revolving around the bridegroom. Our singers are trained in foreign languages as well and can present songs in Arabic and Malayalam – apt for the occasion as the bridegroom leaves and arrives at the brides residence. We provide professional main singers and chorus for the occasion.

Stage and orchestra set up- We set up the stage for the event and even arrange the orchestra which can constitute of traditional Indian instruments such as the tabla, kanjira, harmonium and ilathalam or cymbals. We provide adequate acoustics and sound setups for the stage and performance. The lighting is usually stage conducive lighting with long range follow spot lights and camera lights.

Photography and videography- Our professional videographers and photographers will shoot short range and long range photos and videos of the dance along with the audience. We create albums with photographs and videos of the performances along with natural audience reactions.
