A North Indian wedding, told through the beauty of Kerala

When Devaki and Adeesh approached Melodia Event Management, they wanted a North Indian destination wedding with a true Kerala backwater feel, all within about ₹8.5 lakh including stay and celebrations. They loved Kumarakom and Alappuzha, so Melodia suggested Blue Serene Resort in Thrissur, a practical and beautiful alternative. The celebration took place on December 3,4 with around 80 guests.

The Story

When Devaki and Adeesh decided to marry in Kerala, they knew what they wanted: a North Indian destination wedding where guests could also get a real taste of a Kerala backwater celebration. They loved Kumarakom and Alappuzha, but with an all-in budget of around ₹8.5 lakh for the venue, stay, and celebrations, they needed a practical alternative that wouldn’t take away from the destination-wedding feel. They chose Blue Serene Resort in Thrissur, and on December 3-4, around 80 guests came together for a celebration that blended North Indian traditions with Kerala’s charm.

For Melodia Event Management, the goal was simple: give the couple a wedding that felt personal, culturally rich, and effortless, while keeping every decision within budget. The celebration began with a colourful Haldi. An uruli, loose yellow flowers, hanging blooms and umbrellas, and a traditional Kerala lamp setup created the backdrop, while games like uriyadi, vadamvali and musical chairs, plus a burst of colour smoke at the entrance, had both families laughing together. The Mehndi and Sangeet followed, with an LED-wall stage, themed table decor, ambient lighting, a DJ and a selfie counter, where North Indian wedding energy met the resort’s Kerala-inspired atmosphere.

On the wedding day, the groom arrived with a lively baraat and a decorated horse. The bride made an unforgettable entry on a decorated houseboat, welcomed by Mohiniyattam dancers. The outdoor ceremony, designed around the pleasant December weather and the waterfront views, was accompanied by a pandit, nadaswaram, a classical fusion of mridangam and violin, and Kathakali. English and Malayalam anchors guided both families through the day. The celebration closed with a reception, and guests also enjoyed a houseboat experience and a visit to Guruvayur.

With the weather in mind, Melodia skipped the cost of a large rain structure and planned the ceremony fully outdoors. But nothing was left to chance. Two months ahead, transparent German-style rain tents and an indoor dining backup were kept on standby in case of rain. Luckily, they weren’t needed, and the wedding went ahead beautifully in the open air. The couple saved money without taking any risk.

In the couple’s own words: “Melodia understood exactly what we wanted- our traditions- with Kerala’s beauty as the backdrop. Every detail, from the houseboat morning to the Guruvayur visit, felt personal and effortless.”

A full contingency (transparent German-style rain tents on standby, an indoor dining backup) was quietly arranged two months out. The result: full savings realised, zero risk taken.
