One of the biggest challenges for a wedding planner is overcoming the limitations of a nature-filled boutique venue and transforming it into a luxury experience. That was exactly the task before us when we took on Canew in Alappuzha. The access road is very narrow, making it impossible for large buses or tempo travellers to reach the resort gate, and parking is also very limited.

This is a small, rustic property with no office buildings or other concrete structures. However, when Ashwin and the team saw the beautiful lawn and the stunning waterfront beside Punnamada Lake, they were certain of one thing—what was about to be created here would be a truly unique, nature-inspired rustic luxury wedding experience! We redesigned the compact space to bring out its maximum beauty.

The Welcome Experience

January 23, 2026, was the auspicious day of Vineeth and Varsha’s wedding. From the moment guests arrived on the wedding day, we wanted them to experience the refreshing charm of Kerala’s rural beauty. To ensure that the challenges of access and parking did not affect the guests, we arranged larger vehicles on the main road itself and transported guests safely to the entry point using smaller vehicles. There, they were welcomed by a grand entrance designed in a traditional style.

A beautifully crafted semi-circular arch made of bamboo poles, adorned with hanging marigold garlands, traditional oil lamps placed on either side, clusters of coconut blossoms, and bunches of green bananas, instantly won the hearts of the guests. From there, we created a special pathway across the lawn, lined with red and white carpets, leading to the mandap.

Intimate Detailing

Although the property was small, the décor we created was a perfect example of how beautifully every available space could be utilized. To ensure guests never felt bored while exploring the venue, we created a special “Ladies’ Corner” against the backdrop of the resort’s bamboo groves. An antique-style white table and mirror were placed there, along with jasmine flowers wrapped in banana leaves.

The sign that read, “Ladies, please take one & adorn your hair,” offered a unique and delightful experience to all the women attending the wedding.

Along the walkway, we created a second wooden arch extending toward the lake, decorated with draping made from Kerala kasavu fabric. Even the veranda of the wooden cottage on the property was adorned with woven palm-leaf designs and hanging garlands, allowing us to maintain the same positive wedding vibe throughout the venue.

The Dream Mandap

The most important ceremony of the wedding took place at the open wooden mandap situated right beside Punnamada Lake. The backdrop featured nothing but the blue waters of the lake and the houseboats gliding across it. Draped with white fabric, lush greenery, and delicate white flowers, the mandap created an almost heavenly atmosphere. The swans swimming gracefully in the lake added even more beauty to the breathtaking scene.

Since the ceremony was held outdoors, we had pre-arranged large outdoor air coolers throughout the venue to ensure that the heat would not inconvenience the guests. Golden Chiavari chairs, decorated with white and gold ribbons, were arranged in a precise layout across the lawn, allowing nearly 400 guests to comfortably witness the ceremonies.

As a backup option in case of rain or any other unexpected weather conditions, we also secured an indoor hall capable of seating 100 guests.

Vineeth & Varsha — The Prince and Princess by the Backwaters

When it was time for the ceremony, Vineeth and Varsha walked towards the mandap dressed in kasavu-themed attire and wearing large pink lotus garlands specially crafted by our team. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Punnamada Lake, the moment they exchanged garlands in the gentle backwater breeze became a memory that would remain forever in the hearts of the guests.

Through meticulous logistics planning and thoughtful design execution, we successfully overcame all the limitations related to access and parking. Without compromising the property’s natural beauty or the presence of its graceful swans, we transformed an ordinary plot into a luxurious lakeside destination wedding venue. Ashwin and the entire Melodia team take immense pride in having beautifully brought Vineeth and Varsha’s special day to life and made it truly unforgettable.
