There is a certain magic that happens when you stop trying to “build” a set and simply start “listening” to a space. When a family from Mumbai approached us at Melodia Event Management wanting an “Authentic Kerala Village” vibe for their Haldi, we knew there was only one place that could speak that language: KR Thekkedathumana.
Stepping into this mansion feels like stepping back a century. It’s an eloquent, compact masterpiece of traditional architecture. As a planner, you don’t need to over-decorate a 125-year-old Nalukettu; you simply need to highlight its soul.
The majestic facade, with its magnificent front door and finely chiseled wooden ceilings, served as our natural backdrop. The sprawling three-and-a-half-acre property slopes gently toward the east, opening up to a vast expanse of Kerala paddy fields—a view that immediately calmed the high-energy pre-wedding jitters.
Our goal was to enhance, not overshadow. The moment our clients saw the Tulasi Thara and the sturdy wooden pillars, they were sold. We focused on three “human” elements to bridge the gap between Mumbai’s fast pace and Kerala’s heritage:
The Roots: We layered the traditional architecture with floral decor and an Oonjal (swing), creating a focal point that felt like a core memory from a childhood summer.
The Glow: Strategic lighting was used to dance off the ancient murals, ensuring the intricate metallic designs on the doors sparkled as the sun dipped behind the paddy fields.
The Taste: No “back-to-roots” experience is complete without a Sadhya. We hosted the feast in the traditional Oottupura, where the aroma of authentic spices made the atmosphere undeniable.
